SENTENCIAS has become SENTENCES to take part in the more than 30 exhibitions of the 42nd Salon International de la Caricature, du dessin de presse et de humour.
The work of Argentine illustrator David Pugliese was one of the highlights noted by the attending public, for the quality of the 23 unsettling images, like anonymous caricatures reflecting phrases that have marked the global political and economic context over the last three years.
For a week, from 23 September to 1 October, the small French town of St Just-le-Martel was the world centre of caricature, where schools and visitors came to learn about this artistic discipline, take part in workshops and serve as models under the feverish hands wielding pencils, brushes and ink… like David’s, who produced almost a hundred!
Alongside this gathering of professionals from every nationality is the organisation’s commitment to reversing situations of censorship, which force cartoonists to leave even their own country in order to keep publishing freely. To this end, it has the support of Cartooning for Peace, Cartoon Movement and Reporters sans frontières.
For Quei15 ART Gallery it has been quite a challenge and an opportunity to broaden horizons, both in terms of exhibition formats and contacts with world-renowned figures and emerging artists whom we hope to see in our city soon.
