SOCIALISM, MANIPULATION AND SIN

“SOCIALISM, MANIPULATION AND SIN” is a portrait of Venezuela since Hugo Chávez came to power, developed in a series of three large-format works made by Venezuelan photographer Frank Balbi Hansen with his team of collaborators.

The exhibition at Quei15ARTgallery includes the premiere of “La Última Cena Bolivariana”, as well as videos and “props” used in the photographs. Regarding this work, the author comments: “Distance does not make me oblivious to what is happening in my country. I see with concern the gap that exists between those who drive Ferraris and buy food and goods at international prices, and those who depend on the government-rationed ‘Clap’ box to survive.”

The exhibition is complemented by two pieces from the series begun in his London studio: the “Bolivarian Guernica”, a photograph full of symbolism that reflects the events that occurred during the first 20 years of socialism in Venezuela, and the “Magical Religious Triptych” that portrays the spiritual queen María Lionza, the blessed José Gregorio Hernández and the magnified Hugo Chávez.
