Jordi Mañosa Co, trained as a graphic designer for book covers and magazine layouts in a renowned publishing house in Barcelona in the 70s and 80s. In 1980 he had a serious hang-gliding accident at the age of 24, and as a result he became a quadriplegic, despite his injury, in particular, it allowed him to continue being independent and self-sufficient. After a few years he returned to practicing his passion for free flying in hang-gliding, ultralight and paragliding. Activities that he has maintained for eighteen years.

The learning acquired in the world of photography was thanks to collaborating with Romàn Gausa, one of the best photographers in Barcelona of those years. He was his teacher and mentor. He also participated in several amateur film competitions in Terrassa (his hometown), winning several awards between 1976 and 1979. Since then, the relationship with photography has been based on snapshots of urban landscapes and especially on portraits of people captured both on their travels and in their social environments. He considers himself a purist when it comes to prioritizing natural or ambient light, and working in spaces not prepared for photography. Although in recent years he has also delved into studio portraiture using only continuous lights.

By chance, in recent years he has made inroads into the performing arts. This has been the pretext that has allowed him to renew his fascination with the shapes and movements of bodies in general, and has reinforced his passion for portraying expressions and looks.

After spending some time taking photographs at the rehearsals of various integrated dance groups, he decided to become a more active part of these groups with the aim of capturing, first-hand, the soul in images of the people who make up them. This is where the motivation to involve people with functional diversity in a more direct participation with the idea of his work was born.

However, due to his personal convictions, he alternates portraying dissidents and activists, whether in the LGTBIQ+ world as physical or psychological diversities.

He has been regularly exhibiting his work for ten years and participating in photography competitions, winning several awards. _December 2024
